problem with mix core and 888/24 - NEED HELP!

Here is the thing. I bought a used Protools 24 mix(mix core,888/24,ATTO card,Digidrive 18/10k and Apple G4 500mhz with upwards of 700meg of ram) with prootols 5.0.1 and finally after i connected everything I keep getting the same mesage "unable to create a DAE deck" 5 seconds after i have load the Protools software; I have done a Digitest on the card and it past witout any problem, I have set the DAE playback buffer to 2 and the playback engine has been correctly set eg. card:mix core and the interface:888/24I/O. So now I have no Idea of what to do next? Any information as insignificant as it might seem , will be higly apprecieted!!!!!!! regards. alrick.

Check the connections on the 888 I had a problem with one once. also beware of what else is on your drives. Also are you using the proper Operating system for the version of protools you have? 5.1.1 uses 2000 but 5.1.3 uses XP. Also do you have the correct cards in the correct slots? The only time I ever got this message is when I did not have my expansion chassis on while attempting to start up Pro Tools. If you do not have an expansion chassis then I would check that all of the node cables are properly connected and that the cards are seated properly (pull them out and reseat them if needed). I am running an identical setup except that I have a Magma expansion chassis and an Adat bridge. I had this same problem and it took me over a week to find it. It turned out to be a bad farm card. The reason I could not find it was that the digitest never reported the card as bad. Wierd...wasted a bunch of time looking for the problem. I can't tell you how many times I reconfigured the system. Once I pulled the bad card out of the slot, everything booted up just fine. I have never replaced the card as I still have the d24 and 2 farm cards. Not sure if this helps you at all. Mack
