I found some older threads on this problem. Maybe someone could bring me up to date on this. Got an imac 800 g-4. Something must be wrong in my set-up. I can't even play back a simple 2 track recording w/o the "CPU usage is holding off USB audio" message. I've increased buffer size to the max, taken off all plugins, deleted extraneous tracks, upped memory allocation, paired down extentions, and I still can't get the freakin thing to do anything - record or playback. My head is about to explode. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

I had a similar problem (with more tracks) until I downloaded the latest Digi USB driver. Since then I no longer get that message and it seems to be running fine, so if you haven't got the latest driver I recommend getting it. I also updated the firmware, but I think it was the driver that did it. J
Thanks for all the suggestions. I believe I have 9.2.2 installed, came with the imac (just got it a few months ago). I did update to the latest USB driver, as well. I need to trim the extensions some more, as most of them are not needed under OS 9. I only use 9 for PT. Am using 10.1.5 for everything else. Which brings me to a question. Could using OS 10 have something to do with my problems? Actually, I first installed PT while booted in 10. When that didn't work, I re-installed it under 9.2.2. That worked fine for a few days, then started going kablooie on me. BTW, I've never been able to run PT under the OS9 compatablity layer in OS10. Should I be able to?
