I am having sync issues while trying to run DVD2SVCD. I am a newbie to the forums here but I have been using DVD2SVCD for a long time with no problems. I apologize if the answer is right in front of me. Generally when I back up a movie from a dvd to a svcd I am happy with the quality of 2 discs providing the movie is under 2 hours. Even now I have no sync issues if the movie is under 2 hours and the end result is 2 cds or two mpeg files. The problem only exists when the movie is beyond 2 hours and requires 3 discs. The sync will start out dead on but will become slighty off by the end of the first disc or mpeg file. The second file will progressively get worse and by the third cd or mpeg file, the sync is way off. When I say 3rd CD or mpeg file what I really mean is both. I never use DVD2SVCD to create image files so it stops after the bbmpeg process and I simply use vcdeasy to burn the images later. With earlier versions of DVD2SVCD this was never an issue(earlier as in before besweet). I did experience CCE problems with the current version of DVD2SVCD where CCE would crash. The only remedy I found to halt the crashing was using AVISYNTH version 2.5.2 and selecting the MPEG2DEC.dll versus the mpeg2dec3.dll, otherwise I would get the Windows XP message of death(You know error reporting service or whatever the heck it is). Sorry for being such a noob if this question was answered a million times already. My system specs. Windows XP PRO Gentoo Linux Via P4PB400 Mainboard Pentium 4 2.4ghz/533 fsb 768 mb Samsung DDR400 450 Watt ps 3 WD 40 g 7200 rpm hds Teac cdr(w) burner Panasonic DVD 8x ATI tv wonder Nvidia GF-4 64mb DDR SoundBlaster 5.1 Adaptec ASPI v 4.60(1021) Page FIle @ 768mb DVD2SVCD version 1.2.1 build 2 CCE SP version 2.5 AVISYNTH version 2.5.2 (only version I can use without crashing CCE) Thank you for your time, NEWBIE----->>> H8 :)

:logfile: I'm trying to guess, but I only can imagine scenarios where the number of CDs is not a factor.. i.e.: If you have errors in your ac3 stream, probably BeSweet fixes them, but some frames should be skipped, resulting in a shorter audio stream. Check the lenght of your elementary streams and let us know: audio: see BeSweet log: "Encoded_audio_1.log" video: frames/fps (parameters of dvd2svcd project file.d2s) jsoto

I got really tired of the Windows XP message of death so I went back to Win2000. After a fresh install I went to the DVD2SVCD website and noticed an update. I bought the new Matrix movie on DVD yesterday so I decided to try and back it up early this morning on a fresh install of windows. Still I am having sync a issue and I did notice some errors in one of the files you mentioned. I am such a newb when it comes to the technical side of things so hopefully yourself or someone else can explain to me why I am having trouble. I am starting to wonder if my DVD-ROM is going bad. Try to re-rip using internal rutines before changing any HW. I think there are some posts in miniDVD and DVD forum about problems with this movie, so if this not works, please do a search. BTW, I've done PAL version with D2S without any problem. Your besweet log shows several skipped frames (30 msec more or less each), so the a/v synch going worse is "normal" jsoto

Thank you for your reply. I have tried to rip again with the setting you suggested but I get the same thing. I am only guessing here but so far this has only been an issue for movies that exceed a certain length. I see your point where as the number of CDS or mpeg files are irrelevant, the reality is it seems to be either certain movies OR the length of certain movies. Oddly enough I have only experienced this problem with movies that exceed 2 hours. Here is a list of the movies I have purchased in the past month or so. It's not a huge deal really since I own the DVDs, it's just that I have gotten in the habbit of backing up all movies and putting the sources in the closet where they are safe. Movies over 2 hours that become out of sync.. Lord of the Rings 2-towers The Core Dream Catcher Matrix reloaded Movies under 2 hours I have recently backed up successfully. Anger Management 2-Fast 2-Furious What is the cause of these errors showing up in the log? Could this indicate a less than perfect rip from the source? I'll keep searching for things to try. Thanks

The CRC errors you're getting are in the ripped VOB's right? I have experienced something similar with movies that span the second layer of the DVD. Try using DVD Decrypter to rip. It has a sort of "intelligent" error skip mode, which skips the frame as a whole, so you will loose some info but what you get will be in sync. Also check if you get errors whn playing back the original on your standalone and on your PC. (I had to have my DVD-ROM replaced once because of these errors.) Please post back the results.

R6 and jsoto, Thank you for your reply. Now that it is the weekend I have some extra time to tinker around with this. The problem has been traced back to my DVD-ROM. I noticed that there are some anomalies(both audio and video)in the ripped VOBs that do not exist on the source DVD. Things are beginning to make sense now. About six months before I got into GENTOO linux, I decided to install RedHat. This process required 3 CDs. I remember that during the installation process the second CD failed when trying to install from the DVD-Rom. The only way to get it done was to use my other drive. I never thought much about it because I hadn't bought any movies at the time so I wasn't converting. I never really put 2 and 2 together until now. I am going to order a new DVD drive today. Thanks -H8
