I think you need a faster computer so you wouldn't have to raise latency to take off the load off the CPU. That would pretty much solve your problems :)

Yes, getting a full blown recording studio would probably also help, but concerning the issue: Even raising the latency by 5ms will move the midi by 5 ms making a proper midi timing impossible. The point is that the midi playback latency is for some reason dependent on the audio latency. Again: This happens only with the EMU driver and NOT with the Asio4All driver. So, has anyone observed something else with their drivers? fladd

I can only give you some observations I've made and work rounds.I have an old PC AMD 3800/1 gig ram single core. 1:Leave all your buffers at their defaults unless you are having a specific issue. 2:If I have a heavy track count and record a midi track later I can get some latency but I can easily Quantize this using splits/blocks. 3:Don't stress the system. The Max I set my sound card to for audio recording is 44.1k 24 bit even though my card supports 32 bit.I've found no difference to my ears at 32 bit.I've even recorded at 16 bit 44.1k with good results depending on the media/material. 4:Some VSTs are not as well written that others and can gobble CPU time and spike so be careful which ones you use and many times I record the midi track as a Stem or as a direct recording in Reaper so it doesn't have to play it,"Live" as such and reduces the FX being used once the original track has been deleted(I save the midi file as a separate file in the Projects folder so I have it if a need it.This reduces stressing my system and does not drop the quality if done correctly and can still be treated again if required. 5:If I consolidate a track the midi files can be out-of-sync but it only occurs at the beginning so now all my midi tracks are split at four bars from the beginning and only this portion goes out-of-sync it seems so is easy to fix. Not the answer you were looking for but hope it helps :)
