Using Variables / look up tables

is there a way to define variables which can then be used to set various values in Reaper. For example, tempo_1 = 90 tempo_2 = 95 volume_1 = -10 volume_2 = -12 now, when inserting a time signature you could type in "tempo_1" instead of 90, and if you changed the definition of tempo_1 it would update in all places that it was used. i'm guessing that Reaper must be able to do this??

AFAIK, Reaper is not able to that, at least not directly as you describe it. Maybe there is some command plugin that coudl allow you to do what you want to do...

i'm not sure what a command plug in is, but i'll look into it. anyone else think this would be useful native functionality? i can think of a few things i'd use it for

You might find this interesting from SWS Command Parameters. Also, several of the SWS command sets have slots which work in much the same way.
