OK, I'll try and explain this, When I try to record my vocals the instrumental comes through. I already had my instrumental loaded in the first track, when I added the 2nd for my vocals the instrumental came through, I have already checked my sound card settings and its not on play all or stereo mode. there is something else too, My mic wil not work in the microphone jack on the front of the computer, it only plays in the input jack. when I loaded audacity it did the same thing on it, the instrumental played through both tracks, but when I used the mic slot it worked on audacity but you know that when you record using audacity you can't hear yourself while you record your vocals which is why I went to try reaper. I hope this makes since. I just trying to record the vocals without the instrumental coming through the 2nd track. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
my camera is not working wish I could post a pic, It just should not be this difficult to record vocals, I have the instrumentals I just want to record my vocals, does anyone have a link to a video that shows the steps for a set up like this. Just laying a instrumental then vocals that shows the set up, like the I/O settings and nothing fancy, like I said I'm just trying to record my vocals over a beat.
You don't need a camera ;) On Windows, click a PrintScreen button and open MS Paint for example, and paste (CTRL+V) what was captured on your screen. Now just save it as .jpg (if possible, otherwise go with .bmp) and upload the file on for example, or put it under "attachments" in your post below (when you click Post Reply). On Mac, just press CMD+shift+3 and the you get that pic on the desktop, which u than upload and share here. Quick search on youtube sent me to .
Check the soundcards mixer again. You have a loop somewhere, so that the soundcards output is mixed with it's input. While it is possible to route inside Reaper in a way that this happens, it is not likely you have done that by mistake. Maybe someone could help if you tell us what kind of soundcard you are using.

wow, I had this problem the other day and made a post about it, in fact I worded the title and post almost exactly like yours is The way I fixed mine was to disable the stereo mix in my sound DEVICE settings I thought it was the soundcard mixer settings, but I went to the sound device and disabled the stereo mix, mine is in vista, for others os's it might be called the what you hear box? hope this helps
yes this is the "stereo mix" or "what you hear" box - that usually leads to this problem. you need to change that to "line in" or wherever your sound is going to :)
