@&*#%@&^&^@^&(&^ Man am I upset right now. (not at Reaper) After getting verification on this forum that TC's Harmony4 plugin (for Powercore) runs well on Reaper, I bought a Powercore Express & the plugin. About $850 total. I had also previously discussed the general performance of this plugin with a TC technician. He said that the processed sound would have around 40 ms delay, but it would not affect the rest of the DAW. I SPECIFICALLY asked about this. Also, the main reason I use reaper for my live performance rig, is that it does NOT add any "behind the scenes" latency when plugins are added. Most other DAWS do. --- So, I installed the bloody thing, and put it on an aux-return track. It is NOT inline with my vocal track, yet it is causing the full 40 ms delay TO MY DRY VOCAL, as well as everything else. THIS IS A NIGHTMARE. Does anyone know why this is happening, and if there's a way to "turn it off" ?
Let me explain more carefully: My "VOX 1" track has an input from the outside world, goes through a comp & EQ, then on to a subgroup and out the master mix. There are no heavy-dsp plugins instantiated on that track. Without Harmony4 installed anywhere, my total in-out throughput is less than 5 ms. I have my HW buffer set to 128. No problems at all. This is WITH the Powercore card installed, just no extra plugins. Then I create a new track, called "Harmo." I instantiate the Harmony4 plugin on this track. I create a send from the "VOX 1" track to this "HARMO" track, and bang, 40 ms delay ON THE DRY VOCAL, even with the "HARMO" track muted. There is also huge latency on my keys sounds, etc, though it may not be as much. (hard to tell) If I bypass the Harmony4 plugin, the huge latency disappears. -------------- PLEASE tell me there's a solution !
I doubt this is it, but what is your monitoring set to, and the record settings for the vocal track? Sounds like Reaper is set to intentionally keep everything delayed and in sync with the plugin's latency.
O.k. some good news for your situation, I think. I retested Harmony4 inline on a live input vocal track. With H4 bypassed and direct monitoring of my audio interface un-muted, a distinct "close flange" is audible. This is consistent with the 5.3/5.3 latency reported by Reaper (round trip ~10ms (?)). I have 128samples @48kHz on my Audiofire12. Now with H4 active the "close flange" sound is replaced by more of a "close slapback" (~10ms + ~40ms). Now for the good news: I instance an additional track monitoring the same mic channel, this one has the "close flange" while the other one with H4 active has the "close slapback". [edit] both channels operating simultaneously, of course [/edit] Definite proof that there is no "system wide" latency at least in this setup.
Zapp, That's what I'm wondering as well, except to the best of my knowledge I don't have any delay-compensation enabled. But there have been so many updates, maybe something in reaper changed? Still, with all my other vst plugins, I don't see how any compensation could be on, and me still getting sub 5 ms latency. (before this plugin was installed) Maybe Powercore "talks" to a different area of Reaper's buffer than VST? -------------- Can you give me a fast run-down of the settings that MIGHT cause some compensation?

Just made the H4 track a send and bingo replicated your result! Would the way I originally set it up suit your rig? If I understand what you're doing, your using plugins for your vox compression and eq (mine is outboard gear). For this workaround you'd duplicate the compression and eq settings with plugins in both the main and the H4 tracks. I think it is by design that the send channel latency is factored into any tracks that send to it. The workaround of duplicating the signal at the inputs gets around this.
Lots of new things have been added to Reaper 3. I think that if it is available it will be in the right click monitor menu. I would look at "preserve PDC..." "Monitor track media..." both are toggle states, in addition to the monitor setting. Also try going back to 2.XX if you haven't tried already, also the Reaper chat

Guod & Zap. Thanks, I'll try these once I setup at my gig. (already packed) Guod, the problem with doing duplicate input is mainly that the harmonies would change volume with the main vox. Can I link two track volume-faders to one single external knob, somehow? I've never been able to do that before, in Reaper. (Piece of cake in Ableton) ---------------------------- I'd also like to know why the track that's sending to an aux is being delayed. What sense does that make? (unless I can turn it off, maybe as Zap suggests) Maybe Justin can weigh in on this.
