my new g4 just arrived...i have no experience with macs...i like what i see so far...i want to install a 2nd hard drive dedicated to audio...could someone please explain to me how to do it? Thanx
I did it myself following the G4 manual: there are very clear graphics that explain how to do it. Be sure to set the second HD as slave: maybe you should change the jumper position.
All very good advice. The only thing I'd add, would be to make sure you use the best cabling possible. It's expensive as hell, but is the way to go. Just my $.02
if you're looking for the best drive speed wise, check out some of the info on . There's a new Western Digital hard disk with a very large 8Mb cache that absolutely smokes all current SCSI, Firewire and ATA drives. I can't afford one myself right now but it might be worth looking into if you're spending a hundred or so on a second drive. I'm still battling with a 5400rpm drive on my beige G3 so I know the hassles you can encounter having a slow drive for protools. 7200rpm and big cache is the way to go as far as I can see.
