I really do not think this is a priority for Reaper. Including decent score editing (whilst very nice) would take the small team away from the main areas of development and take up all their time. Notation is a specialist field and best served by specialist programs like Sibelius or Finale. I would just like Reaper to continue to improve the MIDI apects of the program which it is currently undergoing. Also as far as educational use is concerned - if a school or college needs notation then they really need a specialist notation program. In this respect I am completely biased towards Sibelius (yes I have also tried Finale) as the best score-writing program available. It is the nature of software that users expect it to be able to accomplsh everything. The user-base of Sibelius sometimes ask for more and more DAW features whilst other users object stating that this is taking them away from the core area of notation and score printing/publishing. I think Reaper is doing just fine in its current development plan.
Reading the thread of the "Big daws" i noted that the ones called "big" all include basic notation. By example, i prefer to use the MusicCreator thing from cakewalk than reaper because this only feature: a basic notation tool for analyze and make some changes to midi recordings

A notation viewer without composing, arranging, and printing tool would be completely useless to me, so, in view of the difficulty specialized program seem to have with those basic task I'm tempted to vote no. But, while I'm pretty certain it isn't gonna happen in the foreseeable future, I'm still curious to see what the dev have to say about this so that's what I ended up voting for.
Being able to edit midi via a score layout is really helpful -for me. I'm not a big reader of music notation, but notation is such a brilliant way to "see" music and work with it.
i totally wouldn't use this (i'd much prefer a tracker-style vertical scrolling pattern editor, to be honest). but i imagine putting the midi notes on notation-style note lines and letting people specify key signatures would probably help a few people without requiring a full notation editor.

I would love to see the midi notes on the staff (with sharps and flats!) as dub3000 suggests - a great compromise. + I'd also like to see "vertical REAPER" !
