why are my favorite plugins funky?

i noticed that in reaper some plugins dont draw very fast. to produce... [1] download zebra2 [2] launch in REAPER [3] perceive slowness in how the gui is drawn [4] open up zebra in another host (cubase or whatever), notice the gui is much faster same for all sugarbytes stuff. effectrix is what i own and drawing bars and dragging them is terribly slow. what gives? whys it all jacked up and sluggish in reaper? is it my computer?

turning off anticipative fx doesn't speed things up for me =/ they mention savihost fixing this at one point. I actually have a savihost version of effectrix running side by side with an instance of effectrix in REAPER and the difference is pretty staggering. savihost updates the GUI maybe 3 or 4 times more often. i realize this isn't every plugin, some seem to be normal (fm8, absynth, massive all run fine)... so it must be something to do with whatever is used in zebra2 or sugar bytes stuff... GUI libraries or whatever. I realyl don't know much about any of that, though.

Yeah, I noticed the same thing recently with some plugins... slow do draw, and then when I move the floating window, also slow... I cannot be my PC, it is a new Quad Q9550, should be enough...

The problem is that only a few systems have this issue and it seems noone ever had the deciding hint to what the culprit(s) might be. Needless to say that I downloaded Zebra and the GUI behaves just like any other plugin GUI here. IIRC this has been done already but this is all that comes into my mind: Since you guys have the same issue, post your system specs + tweaks as detailed as possible. Maybe your computers have something in common.

same here...all Waves plugs refresh so slow...nearly impossible to work with. No problem in other hosts.

Same problem for me with Uhbik (also by u-he), seems to take an age to startup, everythng else is fine. Will post system specs once I get home

I have discovered something interesting If one fires up Tobybears MiniHost... the exact same set of plugins suffer from slowness. U-He and Sugar Bytes, and most likely Waves plugins. (I don't own any waves). There is probably some conflict with a particular programming library (speculation on my part) ALSO Just to clarify to people who breeze over this topic... It is not every plugin, just a small bunch which just so happen to be highly awesome ones, in both REAPER and MiniHost. Most plugins I've tried perform identically to every other host. So people speculating that the refresh rate in REAPER is slower, well, I challenge you to open up any Fabfilter plugin and maintain that point of view.

it really could be anything: video card model/ram, video driver version, service packs, other apps running at the same time, anti virus, pci bus latency. please post some system specs and maybe it'll make it easier to find what's the issue with it.
