Possibly the stupidest EQ FFT question

EDITED Ok is it usual to use a FFT EQ like the one in reaper in place of a normal EQ? as being able to see the frequencies helps me a lot. Thanks.

I have not asked my question well ! What i mean is, does anyone use the Reaper (Reafir) on tracks for Equing at mixdown rather than ReaEq ? despite there being latency using Reafir ? Sorry for confusion

Not a stupid question, IMO. I was actually just thinking about the same thing. I noticed that it is possible to make VERY steep EQ curves with ReaFIR, and to carve out very specific frequency ranges. Are there any down-sides to using this tool (that my ears are not good enough to hear) such as coloring, artifacts, etc? Thanks, -Bill

The way I understand it (rightly or wrongly) is that regular eq's affect sound similar to the resonances of physical objects and hence sound more 'natural'. I think that some people are unnecessarily obsessed with steep eq curves. It is handy to have a freq plot while you're eq'ing though.
