Hey I got jealous of the Windows Freeware VSTi thread so I figured us OSX users deserve one too. Post your favorite freely available VST/VSTI plugs, preferably ones that work on Intel architecture. Some of my favorites: TAL-UNO 62 - sweet Juno 6 emulator TAL-Electro - virtual/analog monosynth thing, good for basslines (All TAL plugins, actually) Automat - cool synth with tons of knobs and modulation options Kickmaker - simple but effective bassdrum/bass/toms synthesizer and finally, Schwa Olga, even though it's not free, I recommend trying it out and buying it, it sounds great and works 100% with Reaper.
I agree about the TAL plugs. Crystal is pretty deep, I can spend hours just digging around with it. Cheeze Machine is good, I like swirly string machine type sounds. Sweetwater recently had the Arturia Moog Modular V.2 for $99.97, and it is the best $100 I've spent in a long time.
An Arcturia Moog Modular sound sample was posted in the windows freeware soft synths thread, it sounds really good!!!! But, not free :( I never got anywhere with Crystal, maybe I should give it another look.
Here are some: Kontact 3 Player & Kore Player fron Native Instruments UVI Workstation from UVI SoundSource Independence Free & Engine from Yellow Tools and Best Service.
There is quite an extensive list here: Free Alpha, Triple Cheeze and Orca are worth mentioning. For Pink Floyd lovers, there is also 'le Synthe'. On the sampler side, there is also Satellite Free.
Kundalinguist - It doesn't have any presets on my machine, I always assumed that was user error but there might be an issue there. Are you using the VST or AU version? I'm using AU, which is odd because I generally prefer VST, which in turn makes me suspect that there is an issue with the VST version of Automat. Or there is no VST version.

I think Reaper might have an issue with the .aupreset format. I have another AU (Ottophormant) which also uses .aupreset, and Reaper is similarly unable to load the presets. Thats not a deal breaker for me, because I love making patches, but now I remember why I never use Automat - Reaper's lack of .aupreset support (if thats the problem) means it's impossible to save patches. If you want a quick test of Automat's capabilities though, there's a randomize parameters button which has interesting results...
i finally find others users who have the same problem !! presets of automat synth dont appear in reaper although they appear in garage band ! this is strange... is this a bug ? reaper bug ? automat bug ? is there a solution ?
