Triggering midi/audio clips?

Without resorting to a different kind of sequencer (like Ableton Live, which I am still afraid to demo because I might get hooked), what are good ways to get midi/audio triggering out of a linear sequencer like Reaper? I am not certain exactly what I want yet, but being able to trigger midi phrases and patterns (usually my own) from my controllers is a good start.

Hi, for triggering audio clips you can look . I never tried to use MIDI clips this way, but Google says, that triggering random MIDI clips inside a linear sequencer seems to be a common problem that is not solved (yet). hth Blechi

To trigger MIDI clips you could use Independence from YT. You can have MIDI clips instead of samples, different clips for different velocities, define a root key, ... and has a couple of options. Works with the free version too.
